LNG: the energy of the future
Liquefied natural gas (LNG for short) is natural methane gas brought down to a liquid form by cooling down to -162°C. This process of liquefaction reduces the natural gas volume approximately 600 times. Natural gas is liquefied to facilitate handling and storage.
LNG is nearly pure methane only. LNG is free of water, carbon dioxide and liquid hydrocarbons. LNG is also colourless, odourless and non-toxic.Hence, LNG is an environmentally friendly fuel. Its combustion results in far less pollutants than the combustion of oil, coal or other fossil fuels. LNG is an energy source used for food processing, heat and power, construction, and transport.
